Recycled Technology Resources Available to Nonprofits

In 2006 two Maine nonprofits (Skills’ Inc and ITE – The PCs for MAINE project) partnered to create a sustainable computer donation program where businesses could save money on recycling costs while providing the program with reusable computer equipment.  This equipment would create work opportunities for people with disabilities and create a constant supply of high quality donated technology for use in the PCs for MAINE computer access and literacy project.

 Today – just over 3 years later – this donation program, named Skills’ eWaste Alternatives, is faced with a good problem – it generates more supply than the PCs for MAINE project has demand. So, in the interest of using this technology for social good, they are now inviting other nonprofits to take advantage of this extremely valuable alternative resource for use in their organizations.  To sustain the program, this technology is available for a small recovery fee, and nonprofits are welcome to check out the inventory at the Waterville facility, or view it online.

 Regularly available recovered technology includes Pentium 4 Desktop and Laptop PCs, Apple I-Life all-in-ones, Monitors, LCD Projectors, Servers, Networking gear, cables, mice, keyboards, memory, parts and HP Laserjet printers.
